Decrypt's Art, Fashion, And Entertainment Hub

A hacker said they purloined personal details from countless OpenAI accounts-but researchers are doubtful, and the company is investigating.

OpenAI says it's examining after a hacker claimed to have swiped login qualifications for 20 million of the AI company's user accounts-and put them up for sale on a dark web online forum.

The pseudonymous breacher posted a puzzling message in Russian marketing "more than 20 million gain access to codes to OpenAI accounts," calling it "a goldmine" and providing potential buyers what they claimed was sample data containing email addresses and passwords. As reported by Gbhackers, the full dataset was being sold "for just a couple of dollars."

"I have over 20 million gain access to codes for OpenAI accounts," emirking composed Thursday, according to an equated screenshot. "If you're interested, reach out-this is a goldmine, and Jesus agrees."

If genuine, this would be the 3rd major security event for the AI business given that the release of ChatGPT to the public. In 2015, a hacker got access to the company's internal Slack messaging system. According to The New York Times, the hacker "stole details about the design of the company's A.I. innovations."

Before that, in 2023 an even simpler bug involving jailbreaking triggers permitted hackers to obtain the private data of OpenAI's paying customers.

This time, nevertheless, security researchers aren't even sure a hack occurred. Daily Dot press reporter Mikael Thalan composed on X that he discovered void email addresses in the expected sample information: "No evidence (suggests) this alleged OpenAI breach is genuine. At least two addresses were void. The user's only other post on the online forum is for a stealer log. Thread has since been erased too."

No proof this alleged OpenAI breach is legitimate.

Contacted every email address from the supposed sample of login qualifications.

A minimum of 2 addresses were void. The user's only other post on the forum is for a stealer log. Thread has actually considering that been erased too. https://t.co/yKpmxKQhsP

OpenAI takes it 'seriously'

In a declaration shown Decrypt, an OpenAI spokesperson acknowledged the situation while maintaining that the business's systems appeared safe and secure.

"We take these claims seriously," the representative said, nerdgaming.science including: "We have not seen any evidence that this is linked to a compromise of OpenAI systems to date."

The scope of the supposed breach triggered concerns due to OpenAI's huge user base. Countless users worldwide count on the business's tools like ChatGPT for organization operations, educational functions, users.atw.hu and content generation. A genuine breach might expose private discussions, industrial projects, asystechnik.com and other delicate information.

Until there's a last report, some preventive steps are always recommended:

- Go to the "Configurations" tab, log out from all connected devices, and allow two-factor authentication or 2FA. This makes it practically difficult for a hacker to gain access to the account, users.atw.hu even if the login and passwords are compromised.

  • If your bank supports it, then create a virtual card number to subscriptions. By doing this, it is easier to spot and prevent scams.
  • Always watch on the conversations kept in the chatbot's memory, hb9lc.org and engel-und-waisen.de be conscious of any phishing efforts. OpenAI does not request for any personal details, and photorum.eclat-mauve.fr any payment upgrade is always handled through the main OpenAI.com link.
